Our ServiceNow HRSD programme is built to mirror the actual sequence of an enterprise HRSD implementation. Every module is taught with hands-on lab work on your personal ServiceNow PDI. By the end, you will have configured a complete, working HRSD environment — Employee Service Centre, HR Case Management, automated Onboarding and Offboarding, Document Management, and a reporting suite — that you can demonstrate directly to any employer.
You will understand the HRSD data model: the HR Case table, HR Services, HR Service Categories, HR Tasks, and how they relate to each other and to the platform's core Task table. The HR Centre of Excellence (COE) model — used by large organisations to organise their HR shared services teams — is explained and translated into ServiceNow configuration: how HR Services are organised into COEs, how cases are routed to the correct COE team, and how SLAs are defined at the service level. HR Profiles and the HR Profile synchronisation with the core user record are configured hands-on. The HRSD roles and permissions model — HR Agent, HR Manager, HR Admin, and employee self-service access — is set up and tested. This module also covers the different deployment models organisations use for HRSD — centralised HR shared services, decentralised HR business partner models, and hybrid models — and how each model is reflected in the ServiceNow configuration.
You will configure the ESC portal in ServiceNow's Service Portal framework: customising the homepage layout with relevant widgets, configuring the HR Knowledge Base integration so that employees are shown relevant articles when they start typing a query, and building the HR catalogue with well-organised categories and service items. HR Catalog Items are configured with clear descriptions, appropriate request forms using service portal variables, and targeted audience definitions so employees only see the services relevant to their role, location, and employment type. Search configuration — ensuring that employees searching for "payslip" or "leave balance" are surfaced the right answers and the right catalog items — is configured and tested. The Now Mobile app for HRSD is introduced, with key configuration points for mobile HR service delivery. You will finish this module with a complete, navigable Employee Service Centre that a real employee could use on day one.
You will configure HR Case types for the most common HR service categories — payroll queries, leave management, policy clarifications, grievance cases, and general HR enquiries — with appropriate forms, required fields, and privacy controls. Assignment rules are configured to automatically route cases to the correct HR COE team based on case type, employee location, and employment category. SLA definitions for each case type are created — defining response time, resolution time, and escalation notifications that keep cases moving and prevent SLA breaches. The HR Agent Workspace — the modern case management interface that HR agents use daily — is configured with relevant related lists, activity feeds, and quick action buttons. Privacy and confidentiality controls are configured for sensitive case types like grievances and disciplinary matters — ensuring that case details are visible only to authorised HR team members. Case escalation paths and manager notification workflows are built and tested end-to-end.
You will configure Lifecycle Events from scratch: understanding the Lifecycle Event engine architecture, creating event definitions for New Employee Onboarding and Employee Offboarding, and building the activity sets and activities that make up each process. For Onboarding, you will configure pre-boarding activities (offer letter acceptance, background check initiation, document collection), first-day activities (IT access provisioning tasks assigned to the IT team, welcome email to the manager, security badge request), and first-week activities (buddy assignment, mandatory training enrollment, HR orientation scheduling). Each activity is configured with its own assignee (HR, IT, Facilities, Manager, or the employee themselves), due date logic (relative to the joining date), and dependency relationships that prevent later activities from starting before prerequisite activities are complete. For Offboarding, you will configure the exit process: resignation acknowledgement, notice period tracking, asset return checklist, IT access revocation tasks, final payroll notification, and exit interview scheduling — all triggered automatically when an offboarding event is initiated. The result is a fully automated Onboarding and Offboarding process that runs without manual intervention, with complete audit trail and progress visibility for HR managers.
You will configure HR document templates using ServiceNow's document templating capability — building reusable templates for common HR documents with dynamic fields that auto-populate from employee data (name, employee ID, designation, department, joining date, and other HR Profile attributes). Document request workflows are configured so that when an employee requests a salary certificate through the Employee Service Centre, the document is automatically generated from the template, routed to the appropriate HR approver, and delivered to the employee through the portal — without any manual typing by the HR team. Document versioning and access control are configured to ensure that sensitive documents are protected appropriately. The HR Knowledge Base is built and structured: creating HR policies, FAQs, and process guides that are surfaced contextually in the Employee Service Centre to deflect cases before they are raised. Knowledge article lifecycle management — draft, review, approval, publish, and retire — is configured with appropriate HR team workflows.
You will build the complete HRSD operational reporting suite: HR Case volume by service category, SLA compliance rate by COE team, average resolution time trend by case type, case deflection rate (percentage of employees who found their answer in the knowledge base without raising a case), and employee satisfaction scores from post-case surveys. These reports are assembled into an interactive HRSD management dashboard — the monthly review tool that HR Directors use to assess service quality and identify bottlenecks. Performance Analytics for HRSD is covered: configuring data collection jobs, scorecard definitions, and interactive analytics widgets that allow HR managers to trend their team's performance over time. The capstone exercise is a complete HRSD governance review: analysing a set of case data, identifying the top three service improvement opportunities, and producing a structured recommendation report — the kind of analysis that HRSD consultants perform at the end of every implementation engagement and that interviewers use to assess strategic thinking alongside technical skills.
