What is ServiceNow ITOM — and Why Infrastructure Professionals Need This Course
IT Operations Management is the discipline of gaining complete visibility and control over an organisation's IT infrastructure — every server, application, database, network device, and cloud resource — and ensuring that infrastructure is performing optimally, that failures are detected and resolved before users are impacted, and that the data about infrastructure is always accurate and trusted. ServiceNow ITOM is the platform that makes this possible at enterprise scale.

Think about the scale of the challenge: a large enterprise might have 10,000 servers, 500 applications, hundreds of cloud instances across AWS, Azure, and GCP, and thousands of network devices spread across global data centres and branch offices. Tracking all of this manually is impossible. ServiceNow ITOM automates the discovery, mapping, monitoring, and management of this entire landscape — and professionals who can configure and maintain these capabilities are among the most highly paid in the IT services industry.
In Pune, infrastructure-heavy organisations — including Infosys, Wipro, HCL Infrastructure Services, Cognizant, and large BFSI companies — are actively building ServiceNow ITOM practices and hiring qualified specialists. The Aapvex ServiceNow ITOM programme gives you hands-on configuration experience on a live platform, not slides and theory. Call 7796731656 to speak with a counsellor today.
Detailed Curriculum — 6 Comprehensive Modules
Our ServiceNow ITOM programme mirrors the actual sequence of an enterprise ITOM implementation — starting with the foundational CMDB and building out through Discovery, Event Management, Service Mapping, and Cloud Management. Every module includes hands-on lab work on your personal ServiceNow PDI instance.
You will understand the CI class hierarchy — how the base Configuration Item class extends into Server, Application, Database, Network Gear, and hundreds of other CI types — and how relationships between CIs model the real dependencies in your infrastructure. CMDB Health is covered in depth: how to measure completeness, compliance, and correctness of CMDB data, and how to configure the CMDB Health Dashboard that IT managers use to govern data quality. Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE) — the mechanism that prevents duplicate CIs when data comes from multiple discovery sources — is configured hands-on. By the end of this module you will have a properly structured CMDB with CI classes, relationship types, and health monitoring in place — the foundation that all subsequent modules build on.
You will configure Discovery from the ground up: MID Server installation and configuration (the on-premise component that enables Discovery to reach devices behind firewalls), IP range and schedule configuration, credential management for Windows, Linux, SNMP, and VMware environments. Discovery Patterns — the rules that define how ServiceNow identifies and classifies each type of device — are studied and customised. You will run Discovery scans in your PDI against simulated IP ranges and review the results: how CIs are created and updated, how relationships are built between servers and the applications running on them, and how to troubleshoot Discovery failures using the Discovery Status and ECC Queue. Horizontal Discovery for applications and Vertical Discovery for infrastructure are both covered with real hands-on exercises.
You will configure the Event Management pipeline: inbound event connectors, event rules that filter and transform raw alerts into meaningful events, and alert aggregation rules that prevent thousands of alerts from a single failing device from flooding the service desk with duplicate incidents. Alert severity mapping, de-duplication logic, and flapping suppression are configured with real-world scenarios. The ServiceNow AIOps capabilities — machine learning-based alert clustering that groups related alerts from a single root cause — are covered conceptually and demonstrated. You will build a complete event-to-incident automation: an alert coming in from an external monitoring tool, correlating with a CMDB CI, and automatically creating a Priority 1 incident with all relevant infrastructure context attached.
You will configure Service Maps for business services: defining entry points (the URLs, IP addresses, or application servers that ServiceNow uses to start mapping), running mapping jobs, and reviewing the resulting topology maps. Service Map patterns — how ServiceNow recognises different application tiers and their relationships — are studied and customised for common application stacks (Java EE, .NET, LAMP). The integration between Service Maps and Event Management is configured so that when a CMDB CI has an active alert, the affected business service is immediately visible on its Service Map — giving IT teams instant impact awareness during incidents. Business Service Management dashboards that show real-time service health are built and tested.
You will configure cloud discovery for AWS and Azure: setting up cloud credentials, configuring cloud account discovery schedules, and mapping how cloud resources (EC2 instances, Azure VMs, RDS databases, storage accounts, load balancers) are discovered and represented as CIs in the CMDB. Cloud tagging strategy and how tags map to CMDB attributes are covered. The ServiceNow Cloud Management Portal — which allows IT teams to provision, manage, and retire cloud resources through a governed self-service interface — is configured with approval workflows and cost visibility. Orphaned resource detection and cloud cost optimisation visibility are covered. By the end of this module you will have a working hybrid infrastructure view in your CMDB with both on-premise and cloud CIs properly classified and related.
You will build the core ITOM operational reports: CMDB coverage percentage by CI class, Discovery success rate by IP range, Event volume by source and severity, MTTR (Mean Time to Recover) for infrastructure incidents, and cloud cost by business unit. These reports are assembled into executive-level ITOM dashboards with interactive filters. CMDB governance workflows — the processes for reviewing, approving, and retiring CIs — are configured. You will set up scheduled Discovery health reports that automatically notify the ITOM team when CMDB data quality drops below threshold. The module concludes with a capstone exercise: designing and presenting a complete ITOM governance framework for a hypothetical enterprise environment — the kind of exercise you will encounter in senior ITOM consulting interviews.
The Aapvex Difference — Why Infrastructure Professionals Choose Us
ServiceNow ITOM is a technically demanding specialisation. Here is what makes Aapvex the right place to learn it in Pune.
Infrastructure Background in the Classroom: Our ITOM trainers have real infrastructure backgrounds — they have managed data centres, run Discovery implementations for large enterprises, and built Event Management pipelines that connect ServiceNow to monitoring stacks. When we explain how MID Servers communicate with ServiceNow through an encrypted channel using a queue-based architecture, it is because our trainers have configured this in production environments and debugged the issues that arise when it does not work as expected.
Labs That Reflect Real Environments: ITOM is not a module you can learn from screenshots. Your PDI is configured with simulated infrastructure scenarios — Discovery running against mock IP ranges, event feeds simulating monitoring tool alerts, Service Maps being built for a simulated three-tier application. Every concept is immediately applied in a realistic lab exercise.
CIS-ITOM Certification Preparation: Every module maps to CIS-ITOM exam objectives. Practice questions, mock tests, and exam strategy sessions are included. The CIS-ITOM certification commands a meaningful salary premium over uncertified ITOM professionals — our programme is designed to get you certified quickly. Call 7796731656 to check current batch dates.
Small Batches: Maximum 15–20 students. For a technical module like ITOM, individual attention from the trainer is not optional — it is essential. Every student's lab progress is reviewed before the class advances.

Student Success Stories
"I had five years of Linux and VMware administration experience but had never touched ServiceNow. A senior colleague told me that ITOM was where the money was in ServiceNow and to learn it properly. The Aapvex ITOM course was exactly what I needed — the Discovery module took something that seemed completely abstract and made it completely concrete through hands-on lab work. I configured MID Servers, ran Discovery against simulated environments, and really understood how CMDB data gets populated. Within three months I was working as a ServiceNow Discovery Consultant at ₹16 LPA — nearly double my previous salary. Call 7796731656 without hesitation."— Rajesh P., ServiceNow Discovery Consultant, IT Infrastructure Services Company, Pune
"The Event Management and Service Mapping modules at Aapvex were outstanding. I came in as a network engineer who had heard about ServiceNow ITOM but had no idea where to start. The trainer explained the entire pipeline — from a Dynatrace alert firing, through Event Management correlation, all the way to automatic incident creation — with such clarity. The cloud module was also excellent and very relevant given how much AWS work my current employer does. I joined a global IT services firm in Hinjewadi as an ITOM Specialist at ₹14 LPA just two months after finishing the course."— Deepika R., ServiceNow ITOM Specialist, Global IT Services Firm, Hinjewadi Pune
